The Core team
- Richard Harris, Project Director – Lecturer
in History Education at Southampton University. Has taught for
15
years in secondary schools and held positions as Head of History
and Head of Humanities. Has worked in ITT for three years. Research
interests focus on 6th form teaching, citizenship and empathy.
- Katharine Burn – Lecturer in History Education at Oxford
University Department of Educational Studies. Has worked for
many years in initial teacher education, initially as a mentor
and professional tutor in school. Her research interests began
with action research into her own practice as a mentor, and widened
to include the nature of partnership in initial teacher education,
and teachers’ continuing professional learning.
- Alison Kitson – Lecturer in History
Education at Warwick University. Works in teacher education
(co-ordinator, history PGCE) and continuing professional development.
Research interests focus on teacher development and the teaching
of history in divided societies.
- Anna Pendry – Lecturer in History Education
at Oxford University Department of Educational Studies. Has extensive
experience of
teacher education, working with both beginning and experienced
teachers. Her research focuses on the professional knowledge
and development of history teachers.
- Madeline Stiles – CEO of Historical
Association, has wide experience of charity management including
finance, strategy,
development and business planning. Madeline is also the publisher
and ITC manager for the Historical Association.
The Writers
The core team of Katharine Burn, Richard Harris,
Alison Kitson and Anna Pendry has written the first four units.
Units 6-10 have been written by Sue Bennett, Jamie Byrom, Richard
Harris, Terry Haydn, Alison Kitson and Michael Riley.
