Assessing the progress and achievements of history trainees: using the Professional Standards for QTS

This unit examines the issues and challenges involved is assessing history trainees, both in terms of making summative judgements that are robust, fair and consistent, and in terms of developing formative elements of assessment which are helpful in enabling trainees to make progress in the Standards. One of the areas of enquiry in full Ofsted inspections of ITE focuses on the question of whether the assessment of trainees against the Standards is ‘effective and accurate' (UCET, 2005).
